Each issue of Regiments covers a regiment or corps of the modern British
army, including its predecessors. (Because of downsizing since the 1950s,
today's British regiments are each successors to several famous units.) It only
covers British units, but for the entire span of their existence. A typical
issue will have about 8 or 10 pages of photos from the regiment today, then
another 10 each on three or four predecessor regiments, and then some pages on
volunteer and reserve components associated with the subject unit. Text is
fairly minimal, being limited to interesting facts and traditions, and short
synopses of regimental histories. The stress is on pictures, mostly 19th
century, with the 18th century fairly lightly covered, and WWI, WWII, and
1950-1970s not heavily stressed, either. Each issue is produced in cooperation
with the regiment in question, so there are many interesting illustrations and
photos from the regimental museums. |
